40 Things before 40

Well…..tomorrow is my birthday (December 16th) What’s funny is my mom was born on January 16th and my daughter is April 16th. Something about that 16 should make it my favorite number. My actual favorite number is 10 and in a few years that 10 will be times 4 and I will be 40 years old. Time goes by fast so I know by the time I blink well I will be 40. I’m not ready……I know they say 40 is the new 30 and JLO looks good but I am still not ready to be in that bracket. I feel some type of way. I guess with me getting older there are some things I truly need to do in my life because I don’t want to be 80 years old and regret anything. So without further ado, I have made a list of things I want to do before I turn 40 I have 4 years to get it done. I will hold myself accountable and cross off things. This time next year I will revisit my list to tell you what all I have done.

  1. Get on a plane – I named this first because I have never been on one. I am gearing up to get on one next year for the first time. I am going somewhere short and sweet so I can get used to being in the air.
  2. Start investing in real stocks – Not the fake ones but getting with a real company to invest in the stock market. I am already in talks with an investment bank as we speak
  3. Make 6 figures with one or both of my businesses – I run a business and a blog. I would like to make 6 figures on my blog but I will be okay if I can make 6 figures combined
  4. Find true love – There is a saying that you have 3 loves in your lifetime. My husband was the second. I am waiting for this 3rd one to show up. I do not want to get married again but I would love to be in a healthy relationship with someone
  5. Travel overseas – Australia is high on my list. I don’t know why but I have always wanted to visit ever since I’ve been a little girl
  6. Photograph someone famous – This would be a dream come true to photograph someone famous I would even do it for free just for the chance to do it
  7. Buy a vacation home – I want to buy one in my hometown of Charleston, SC it doesn’t have to be by the beach but it can be close enough. Plus I want my kids to know some of my heritage
  8. Go to New York for Christmas – The way that cold is set up but I think I will brave it even if it’s not for Christmas it can be around the holidays
  9. Put on heels – I use to wear heels when I was young without kids. I may attempt to put on some for an hour and then take them right off
  10. Help my kids start a business – I know that this is about them but really it’s about me. I want them to secure the bag ahead of time so they can make their own money as a backup plan
  11. Lose 40 pounds – My weight has gotten out of control. I have 4 years to make things happen….
  12. Learn how to swim – So I took classes last summer but only went for 6 weeks…I learned nothing…well one thing how to float…I got that down packed
  13. Go to a drive-in movie – So yes I have never been to one….maybe that true love will take me on our first date
  14. Go on a girls trip – So technically I have done this but it was a business trip not one for leisure. I want to go somewhere fun without having to bring my laptop
  15. Have a blog post go viral – I have been blogging for over 7 years and not one of my posts have gone viral….I am hoping one will in the new year
  16. Get on camera more – I hate video. I hate being in front of the crowd but I am determined to get over my fear
  17. Learn to forgive better – I am not a forgiving person at all. I actually just ignore the problem and sweep it under the rug. When people do me wrong I cut them off and hate on them forever…I will work on this and learn to understand who they are
  18. Sing on stage – Did you know I can sing? I can also play the piano. My mom sent me to piano classes as a young child to try to incorporate the arts into me….One day I want to do both or even just one
  19. Go rock climbing – I have done this but never make it past the bottom because of my fear of heights
  20. Write a book – Technically I have written 2 but never really promoted them or had someone do it for me. I need a real person to help me write a book.
  21. Go camping – Not in a real tent, I need an RV or something. But I would love to hit the road and do an RV trip
  22. Travel to Hawaii – I have always wanted to go here and I will make this one of birthday trips for myself
  23. Get glammed up – I need to lose the weight first but I would like to get glammed up for some nice photos and wear some makeup and do it up big
  24. See a stage play – The Lion King is coming in January I think I will cross this off my list next year
  25. Drink Coffee – Do you know I don’t drink coffee lol. I do drink latte and pretend
  26. Keep plants alive – I don’t have a green thumb but I love flowers. I may just have to order me some fresh flowers to be delivered to my home on a monthly basis
  27. Host a party – I wanna do one of those nice hosted parties where I can decorate and do the plates all nice get my DIY on
  28. Go to a football game – A real one with a NFL team. I have never been to one. I have been to college games
  29. Go salsa dancing – I have secretly wanted to do this for quite some time
  30. Take a cooking class – I can cook but it doesn’t hurt to learn some new dishes from someone who knows the business. Can I get Bobby Flay? I like Gordon but he might yell at me
  31. Karaoke – I have never been and I have always wanted to try it out
  32. Learn how to grill – So I can cook my ass off on the gas grill but the charcoal….the fire scares me. I promise if someone shows me one time I got it
  33. Sew – My mom was the queen of sewing and she showed me how to put a zipper in but I would not take the time to learn. I do want to at least put a button on
  34. Wear a dress – The last time I wore a dress was on my wedding day back in April of 2005. I have worn skirts but not a dress. I gotta get my weight down but I plan on wearing a dress within the next couple of years
  35. Get a mentor – I need one for my life. Maybe I need to seek counseling instead. I need one of the two so I can get on the straight and narrow pat
  36. Go to a concert – I haven’t been to one since the early 2000s. I wanted to go to the xscape one but the way my babysitting was set up at the time…..
  37. Help raise money for charity – I am working with No Kid Hungry next year and I think I may do a fundraiser to help get them some sales
  38. Organize – I am not the queen of organization. I try but I fail every time I hope that I am more organized as I get older
  39. Learn Yoga – I don’t know I feel like I need to have a booty for this because me in yoga pants with no ass….it ain’t cute
  40. Grow closer to God – I saved this one last because I saved the best for last. I want to dive deep into my religion a bit more and truly learn about God. I know him but I want to get to know him on a deeper level

So there you go! I will check back in mid-year of 2018 to see what I have crossed off my list. I can’t wait to tell you about it! I didn’t say how old I will be but the clue is in this post somewhere….see if you can guess lol. I am shy about my age because if I ignore the age and pretend I’m 21 I will forever be youthful lol.

Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday! This a great list of things that I know you can achieve Kita!

New York is amazing any time but there is an even more beautiful energy during Christmas, so you will love it.

And spider plants do well in almost any environment & any “thumb” so you might consider them.

p.s. Welcome to the 40 club!

Omgosh! I would love to do A LOT of these. I’ve done quite a few of these, but visiting New York, going to Australia or Hawaii, I’ve never done…not to mention a few others. I hope you reach a lot of your goals!

I’m not done reading your list but here goes:

I’m down for the girls trip. RV Style would knock two off your list. And we can stop at some dive and do karaoke so you can sing your heart out.

Lion King is amazing. You will never forget that show. Go!

Get dolled up now. See yourself this way and then work on getting the weight off. Doll up simple so you can do the same outfit when you drop those 40 lbs.

NYC at Christmas is everything. Bring your layers and enjoy it.

I’ll be back. Love this list and I want to see you make it all happen.

I love this list. I appreciate how personal some of them are. I recently saw a 30 before 30 list and realized I hadn’t really thought about setting a list of goals like this with an age. I just may have to sit down and write some things down before time flies by on me too! o_o

Happy BIRTHDAY to you! This is a fantastic list, and I think that you can totally accomplish it all in four years! I turn 40 in 3 years, and I’m still not where I thought I’d be, but I’m doing okay – it looks like you are too. I hope today was as magnificent as you are.

I enjoyed reading your list. I was glad to see that you included #40 in it. I firmly believe that if you put that one first, all of the other items will gently fall into place. I really enjoy visiting your blog and am eager to see your progress on this list.
