3 Holiday Traditions we are starting this Year

The holidays are here! I don’t know about you but I was ready this year…more ready than ever before to start the holidays. I guess because the holidays bring good joy and good cheer. This year I decided to start some new things around our household. New traditions that I hope my kids will cherish as they get older. It’s not huge traditions but it’s something new for us as we are on a journey as just us 3. Here are our new holiday traditions.

Our Holiday Traditions

Matching Night Clothes

The trend this year seems to be matching night clothes and I for one am down for it. My kids and I decided to try this out this as one of our new holiday traditions this year with our night clothes from Hanna Anderson.

Our holiday traditions including matching night clothes for the whole family.

Of course, if you can find some at a lot of various places.

Lazy One Inc has some cute ones! I especially love the Flapjack ones

PajamaGram is another cool place they have a snoopy one also

and of course, Target has them also

My advice when picking out night clothes is to let the kids pick this one. Let them feel they have a choice in the matter and go with it. This is something fun and no matter the age I think all will enjoy this tradition. My son picked snoopy because it represented his dad. We will wear matching night clothes on Thanksgiving eve and Christmas Eve.

Let the kids make breakfast

Now before you panic, you must supervise them lol but I think it’s okay to let them make breakfast if they are old enough if they aren’t let them help out. My kids will be in charge of breakfast on Thanksgiving morning and Christmas morning and I will allow them to mess up my kitchen twice a year. My kids did well this year they made an overnight french toast bake. I gave them the directions and let them handle it! They both had to learn how to work together (which hardly ever happens) and if they didn’t work together they would be banned from electronics. This helps them get along for at least a few minutes. It also builds teamwork for skills that they will need later on. I told them to work together.  I told my son to take the first 4 ingredients and measure them while my daughter took the last 4 ingredients and measured them. They each had to take turns mixing and prepping. I am proud to say that I am still alive after eating the breakfast. It was actually pretty good so this one will continue to be one of our holiday traditions each year.

 Take a trip to Six Flags over GA

If you don’t have a Six Flags in your neck of the wood, go to one of your local parks and enjoy the area attractions. We have been every year for the past 3 years and we enjoy every moment of it. It’s normally cold but if you bundle up correctly you won’t feel it besides you will be having too much fun. We enjoy this as a family because you get to ride rides, see some caroling, see a tree light up that is not as crowded as downtown Atlanta, and did I mention the various extras they have during the holidays. Let’s talk about them.

Holiday in the Park has become the number one holiday destination in the southeast, as we expand with more rides, more magical sounds of the season and more thrills than ever before,” said Park President Dale Kaetzel. “This is one of the largest seasonal events in Georgia, featuring eight world-class roller coasters and more than one million LED lights for the biggest and brightest tradition the entire family can enjoy together.”

Holiday in the Park will offer guests new, enchanting entertainment and the return of guest-favorite holiday thrills, including:

  • New in 2017, Metropolis Park will light up the Georgia night with hundreds of blue and white sparkling lights, along with two new iconic super hero rides now open for Holiday in the Park – JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle For Metropolis in 4D and SUPERMAN: Ultimate Flight;
  • The magical Main Street Christmas park entrance with a 165,000 twinkling light canopy and artificial snow;
  • All-aboard the North Pole Express train ride to see Santa at the North Pole;
  • A spectacular state-of-the-art choreographed light show Magic of the Season; and
  • The iconic highlight of the event—the historic 1908 Riverview Carousel at Candlelight Carousel featuring more than 100,000 lights and 250 luminary candles, among other themed areas.

Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Over Georgia also holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for Most couples kissing under the mistletoe. Now that’s a fun fact I bet you didn’t know.

Where else can you enjoy snow, lights, and did I mention specialty funnel cakes like Smore’s and Red Velvet….my gawd

What new holiday traditions will you start this year? What traditions have you hated or loved throughout the years?

    Last year we drove to visit an elderly cousin and deliver homemade Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a 5-hour drive and we visit briefly, eat dinner and then make the return 5-hour trip home. I know it seems like a lot to be on the road that long just to bring 1 person dinner but we had so much fun last year and she called saying she wished we could do it again. Guess what? We did. Loaded up the car with all her faves, pics from family and friends and hit the road. So I guess we just started a Day after Thanksgiving Road Trip tradition.

    These sound like some great holiday traditions to start. One that I used to do when I was a little girl and now do with my family is a Christmas Eve gift with PJs. I love spending the holidays with family.

    We let our teens do the tree this year. I was nervous at first about them arguing but the tree looks good. With a new grand-baby on the way, I think this will be a new tradition.

    These are all great traditions. My girls get holiday pj’s for Christmas Eve. Thanks for posting Hanna Anderson! I saw the cutest pj’s and lost the link, but the name rang a bell.

    Our family’s traditions have been the same through the years, up to 4 generations back. We attend mass on Christmas eve and spend Christmas day with the entire clan. I don’t think we are going to do anything different this year, because our annual family get together is always something we all look forward to.

    Sounds like some fun traditions to start. I love the idea of matching pajamas we did that last year, but this year I went a different route and just made sure everyone got a new pair for Christmas eve, no matchy!

    Since Xmas is not a holiday that I celebrate I have no seasonal tradition. But I do enjoy making lasting memories with my friends and family throughout the year.

    I want to do matching pajamas and gingerbread houses, but we are a blended family so having everybody here to do it is difficult. But the crew that resides with me will definitely create a new tradition.

    I really want to have my kids gather some clothes that they have out grown and we make patchwork pillows together. I want to make something sentimental for the holidays. I remember it being a sentimental time for me to spend with my grandmother so I want to pass that tradition on to others.

    I have never been to Six Flags during the holidays, and this definitely makes me think that I should be heading there soon. I wonder if it’s because we’re in Chicago, and it is usually cold over this way. Also, I love your holiday traditions. It’s super hard to find ones when you are an adult that reflects you and your family.

    of course like your website however you have to
    test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I
    to find it very bothersome to inform the reality however I will surely
    come back again.
