10 Things you may not have known about me

I got this idea from one of my favorite bloggers and told her I would jump in and give you all 10 things that may surprise you about me. Thanks, Kenya for this!

I wasn’t always an introvert

Surprising I know. I thought I would start off with this one because many people think I am this shy person all of a sudden. Don’t get me wrong I never to much cared for a crowd of people but I was always a person that never shied away from the spotlight. I have spoken in front of crowds, I was the life of the party, and I always had folks laughing and would strike up a conversation with anyone. I think when I became a stay at home mom and was away from people I became an introvert sort of and started liking my shell. I don’t come out of it unless I have to. This surprises a lot of people who use to know me back in the day. They would probably tell you that I am not an introvert and I am lying

I can sing and play the piano

I hated when my mom dragged me to piano class. Hated it with every fiber but I guess the few trophies that I have speaks for itself. I joined the choir because I needed to take a class in high school and it was either that or art. I chose the choir. I sang 2 solos and was in a girl group in high school. I do not sing on demand so don’t ask me to.

I was a tomboy

I still am. I never was into frills or pretty things. I am simple and like simplicity. I hate makeup but can change a tire. In high school, I hung around boys mostly because the girls always wanted to go to the mall ….for what. I prefer to play basketball, play some cards, and just be simple. My mom prayed for me that I would turn into the girly girl that she was but I prayed the opposite prayer. I can dress if I need to but I still prefer my sweats and a tshirt

I was in the panda bear den

When I was little we went to the zoo. I saw the pandas and I have always loved pandas so I asked my mom if I could go and touch them she said no. I was probably around 6…I don’t remember much about that day but I do remember sneaking off and going into the panda den. Don’t know how I got down there but people were screaming I was like my gawd why are folks going fool it’s just a cuddly teddy bear. While everyone else was in panic mode I was calmly trying to go and touch one. They never came towards me and some guy came and got me out of the den. Damn him…..I didn’t get to touch the bears. I was mad at him and kept hitting him and my mom cussed me out that night. I was like but I only wanted to touch the bears what’s the big deal. I have a tatoo of a panda on my arm to remember that day lol

I have written two books and they are both published. One under my name and one under another name

I  am an author and actually have 2 books out there somewhere. One I did years ago and one I did about grief when my hubs died. I may redo both books and get a real person to edit them and come back out with them next year.

I am educated

I know it doesn’t look like I am but ….I went to private school from 3 years old until the 6th grade. I can actually speak correctly I just choose not to. My mom put me in public school for 7th grade because she felt that I needed to learn how the real world truly was. When you are in private school you are sheltered I didn’t realize how much until I went to public school and got a taste of the real world. Let’s just say it wasn’t good because I have been a cussing fool ever since. In high school, I was in all honors programs and I graduated the top of my class with a scholarship to Clark Atlanta University where I received my Bachelors Degree in business with a concentration in Marketing and Management.

Kita is not my real name

So it’s a part of my real name and I adopted it in middle school because people can never pronounce my actual government name. I go by Kita, my kids know me by Kita (they don’t even know my real name lawd help them) I have even cashed a few checks with the name Kita. I don’t hate my real name I just don’t feel like trying to explain it to people and have it mispronounced so I opt to just go by Kita.  I also never put my kid’s real names on my blog they are called Zaza and Dman. I want to protect them as much as possible and myself because too many crazies live in this world

I bought my first car cash with my catering money

I never cooked a day in my life until I came to college. My mom would always tell me to get in the kitchen but I refused. I did learn how to cook an egg before I left for college but my mom said there was no hope for me….guess she didn’t like the eggs. My sophomore year in college I was in a dorm with a kitchen and I didn’t want cafeteria food so I called my mom and had her give me lessons over the phone. She yelled at me saying she told me to get in the kitchen so it took her a while to teach me but when I learned I guess I was just naturally good at it. I started cooking for my roommates and they would pay me to have breakfast and dinner ready for them. They told their friends and soon I had an operation going. I made so much money cooking real food for kids that I paid for my first car cash. It was a 1999 honda civic…red lol. I sure do miss that car with the cd player I bought to replace the one that was in there

I won an award for reading over 400 books in one summer

While most teenagers did other things I was at the library reading. Reading has always been my first love. You can learn a lot from reading and it takes you to another world. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I stayed in the library reading and entered a contest one summer right before my junior year of high school. It was a contest to read the most books. I would write down the book and turn it in weekly. They called me during the last week of the contest and said I was clearly the winner. The guy didn’t believe that I read that many books so he would question me randomly about the books on my list and I was able to recall each and every one of them…..booyah!

I like to be in control

I think that’s a huge problem of mine. I don’t like when the outcome is out of my hands. I think that’s one of the reasons I have never flown on an airplane. Someone else getting me to my destination no thank you. I also don’t like going anywhere where I can’t hop in my car and go. I know folks getting in ubers and lyfts these days like it’s nothing but I am so used to being independent that I can’t fathom me getting in the back of someone’s car and have them drive me somewhere when I can do it myself. I also think it’s a reason that I don’t love easily…you can’t control who you fall in love with. I like to control these things so when I do fall for someone I hate it because I like to control my feelings. I saved this one for last because I am working on this heavily this year. I find that when I let God be in control…good things happen.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better. Now tell me one thing about you in the comments below!

I always love learning more about the person behind the blog. I can’t sing or play the piano but my entire family is musically talented – they all sing and play instruments. They sure didn’t get it from me.

Cool! It’s always fun to learn more about a person. I think it’s neat that you read over 400 books in one summer. It sounds like something I’d do. Reading is one of my favorite things!

I’m a total introvert. I always have been. Maybe not as crazy as now though.

I just pictured a little you in the panda den like that baby was in the gorilla pit with Harambe. Free-spirit haha! I wasn’t always an introvert either. The older I get the quieter I get for some reason lol

These are interesting facts about you. The panda den experience must be a thrill. My kids goes to private school, someone told me I should be saving the money I spend paying their tuition but I just ignore them. I like my kids to be sheltered at least for now that they are young.

I was a tom boy too. I didn’t start being more girly until high school. What a fun idea for a post

You are so special. I love these things about you and I am glad you did not get hurt in the panda cage. I don’t think I could think of ten things so great about myself.

I love to read. I promised to give myself more time to do it this year. I worked from a very young age, about 11, and bought everything on my own.

It was wonderful learning more about you. I hated my name growing and it was always mispronounced. When I first started blogging I went by Nicole because it was just a lot easier for me… I tell my daughter all the time about the cooking in college ( and doing hair) you never know what might come from it.

You strike me as someone who used to be the life of the party. I wish I could sing sooooo bad. If I could, you would be able to stop me from belting out tunes all the time.

Thanks for the tag. You know I haven’t always been an introvert either. I clearly remember teachers writing in my report card comments that I talked to much. I started to list that one. I became introverted going into a new high school not knowing anyone. That was really hard. So after that people labeled me as shy some some said stuck up then once they got to know me they knew it was neither. So can we guess your name like Rumplestilkin? I have thoughts on this name! I guess in some ways I’m still a tomboy. I need help when I go shopping. My mom dresses so cute and fly and I can’t find stuff to save my life because I want to go for comfort.

Wow! You’ve accomplished a lot, The panda story is funny. I would be a pretty upset mother too if my kids directly disobeyed me and then almost got hurt. I hope to write a book too one day!

It’s always so nice to know more about bloggers. I can never imagine how my mom would react if I entered one of those cages in the zoo, I’d be dead but not because of the animals. LOL!

Awesome, Kita! It’s fun reading these things about you, so thanks for sharing them. I had no idea Kita wasn’t your real name. That’s a great way to protect your identity though. Good move on that one!

I enjoyed reading your list and especially the part about buying a car from your dorm room catering biz! That’s how a girl boss do it. The one thing about me is that i dont like sharing about me. Lol. Seriously I prefer not to talk aboit myself which is why I always get the ‘you are such a good listener’ from friends.

I am so happy that you have this alter persona and keep people guessing what is coming. You sound so much like my eldest daughter, she has read so many books and sometimes I have to keep her from reading because she may lose sight of the real world haha. Something folks may not know about me is that I used to sing – a lot. Weddings, national anthem at sporting events, karaoke. You name it. I’m not sure why I stopped. Maybe because I wasn’t working in an office setting and hanging out with my friends or students as much.

Lovely post, Kita and so enjoyable. I knew that you were educated. I can see some of that in your writing style but was pleasantly surprised to learn about your singing and musical talents. A few of my family members play musical instruments mainly the piano, violin and guitar. I played the piano by ear a few years ago but no longer have one in my home. I am an introvert myself. I enjoy your posts.

I really enjoyed reading this and getting to know you better little panda girl. 🙂 I can’t believe you thought you could just climb down in their den and pet them 😂 Okay, I shouldn’t be laughing. I actually took piano lessons as well. Different experience than yours. My mom keeps trying to sell my piano. I need to get it down this way. You now have me thinking about writing a piece like this. Thanks for sharing!
